2-digit Addition and Subtraction

Hello parents,
We've started learning how to add 2-digit numbers in math (i.e. 57 + 21 = 78) with and without re-grouping up to 99.  Next week we will begin subtracting 2-digit numbers, with and without re-grouping.  Both of these prove to be more challenging when students do not know their number facts for adding and subtracting numbers up to 18.  Please practise and review these at home to make this new learning easier for your children.  Flash cards from the dollar store are a fun way to practise!

Class Trip Next Week

On Tuesday, March 26th our class is going to the Ontario Science Centre.  We are going to explore the exhibits and participate in a Simple Machines workshop.  Our school is very lucky to be part of Adopt-a-Class program and we are able to go to the Science Centre at absolutely no cost to us!  We will take a TTC bus to get there and back.  I will send a reminder next week.
Please remember to sign and return the permission form as soon as possible.

Fun with Fractions!

In math, we're learning about basic fractions - halves, thirds and fourths.  We are learning how to use fractions when sharing things equally.  We know that fractions must have equal parts.

Valentine's Day - February 14th

Valentine's Day is a special day to celebrate love and friendship.  A tradition for Valentine's Day is to give and exchange cards.  Students are encouraged to make/create cards for their friends in class.  If your child wants to do this, my only request is to make sure that they are bringing a card for each person in class.  I am sending home a class list of everyone's name to help them.  This is of course optional, but it is a great opportunity for your child to practise their writing.
