Fun with Fractions!

In math, we're learning about basic fractions - halves, thirds and fourths.  We are learning how to use fractions when sharing things equally.  We know that fractions must have equal parts.

Here are a few websites with games to practise with your children:

Valentine's Day - February 14th

Valentine's Day is a special day to celebrate love and friendship.  A tradition for Valentine's Day is to give and exchange cards.  Students are encouraged to make/create cards for their friends in class.  If your child wants to do this, my only request is to make sure that they are bringing a card for each person in class.  I am sending home a class list of everyone's name to help them.  This is of course optional, but it is a great opportunity for your child to practise their writing.

New Books for Homework Program

Today your child has chosen 3 books to read this week for their homework.  2 borrow-a-book and 1 that's "just right" for them.  It's called an A-Z book and it looks like this:
These books are at your child's reading level - should be a little challenging, but they must be able to understand what they are reading (i.e. give a good retell, answer questions about the story).  Please make sure that you make an effort to read these books with your child and discuss the story with them afterwards.
Happy reading!

Skating Tomorrow!

After a short time away, I'm happy to be back in class and get back into our regular routines - I missed the children!  Mr. Ngo did a wonderful job with the class while I was gone, and I am thankful for all of his hard work and effort.

Tomorrow is our last skating day.  Please remember to make sure that all students bring their lunch to school, warm mittens or gloves, thin hat (to fit under their helmet), scarf and snow pants if you have them.
It's going to be very cold tomorrow, so it's extra important that we are all dressed properly.
